Every patient deserves the benefit of the best that medicine knows.
Between what medicine discovers and what a patient receives lies a distance — closed only when surgery, research, education, and innovation are pursued as one, always in service of the patient. That is the life’s work of Dimitrios Magouliotis, a cardiothoracic surgeon and physician-scientist.
I am a physician whose work brings together clinical training in cardiothoracic surgery, research, education, and innovation in pursuit of better patient care. It concerns aortic disease, the science of surgical quality and outcomes, and the responsible use of computation to support a surgeon’s judgment rather than replace it.
One conviction anchors all of it. Every patient deserves the benefit of the best that medicine knows. Research, education, innovation, and collaboration are not separate pursuits but different expressions of that single commitment, each a way of shortening the path from knowledge to care.
