Care

Every patient deserves a decision informed by evidence, guided by clinical judgment, and centered on their individual circumstances.

Medicine is practiced one patient at a time. Although research, guidelines, and technological advances continue to transform healthcare, every clinical decision must account for the unique circumstances of the individual in front of us.

My own training is in cardiothoracic surgery, and my work is grounded in aortic and structural heart disease, where questions raised at the bedside shape the research that follows.

That principle shapes every clinical decision.

Every patient is different

Evidence provides the foundation for modern medicine, but no publication or guideline can fully capture the complexity of an individual patient.

Age, medical history, anatomy, personal goals, values, and expectations all influence the best course of action. Thoughtful care begins by understanding these factors before considering treatment options.

Evidence with judgment

Clinical decisions should combine the best available scientific evidence with experience, careful evaluation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Research helps define what is possible.

Clinical judgment determines what is appropriate for each individual patient.

Neither is sufficient on its own.

Shared decisions

Patients should play an active role in decisions about their care.

Clear communication, transparency, and mutual understanding allow treatment plans to reflect not only the available evidence but also the goals and priorities of the person receiving care.

The best decision is one that is both medically sound and personally meaningful.

Beyond the operation

High-quality care extends far beyond the operating room.

Preparation, teamwork, perioperative management, recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up all contribute to successful outcomes.

Every stage of care offers opportunities to improve the patient experience and achieve better results.

Looking ahead

Medicine evolves, and so must the way we care for patients.

By combining clinical practice with research, education, quality improvement, and responsible innovation, I hope to contribute to a future in which better decisions become better care, and better care leads to better lives.
